Bloomsburg Falls to East Stroudsburg in Women's Basketball

EAST STROUDSBURG - The Bloomsburg University women's basketball team opened Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division play with a 74-57 loss to East Stroudsburg on Wednesday night.

The Huskies trailed by just three points at halftime behind eight points from Colleen Kegerreis (Schuylkill Haven/Schuylkill Haven) and Laura Lyons (Hatfield/Pennridge).

After the Huskies scored the opening basket of the second half on a jumper by Kirby Johnson (Woodstown, NJ/Gloucester CC) to cut the deficit to 31-30, the Warriors went on a 11-2 run to open a 42-32 lead with 15:36 to go in the game. Bloomsburg battled back and used a 10-6 run of its own to climb back within six points at 48-42 after a three-pointer from Kait Urban (Johnstown/Westmont) with 11:39 left.

But that would be as close as the Huskies would get. East Stroudsburg increased its lead to 15 points, 64-49, on a three-pointer by Jasmine Gittens with 3:23 to play. After the Huskies closed back to within nine points with less than two minutes to play, the Warriors ended the game with an 8-0 run to win by 17.

Kegerreis led the Huskies (3-10, 0-1 PSAC East) with 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Lyons added 11 points and Urban 10.

East Stroudsburg (6-7, 1-0 PSAC East), got 23 points from Gittens, 17 from Maryellen Onofre and 13 from Jaclyn Yandrisevits.

The Huskies are back in action Saturday at Indiana (PA) starting at 1 p.m.
